Frequently Asked Questions

Who should use the Lean Canvas?

The Lean Canvas is ideal for entrepreneurs and early-stage startups. It’s designed to be fast, concise, and focused on the riskiest elements of a new business idea, making it perfect for the problem-solution validation phase.

The Lean Canvas replaces the ‘Key Partners’, ‘Activities’, and ‘Resources’ blocks with ‘Problem’, ‘Solution’, ‘Key Metrics’, and ‘Unfair Advantage’. This makes it more focused on the initial stages of a startup, whereas the Business Model Canvas is useful for both new and existing businesses.

The ‘Unfair Advantage’ box is often the most challenging. A true unfair advantage is something that can’t be easily copied or bought. If you can’t think of one, that’s okay! It highlights an area you need to work on developing.
