Who is the Product Canvas for?

The Product Canvas is designed for product managers, product owners, and their development teams. It’s an excellent tool for kicking off a new product, planning a major new release, or ensuring everyone is aligned on the product’s vision and details.

The Product Canvas is more tactical and product-focused. It zooms in on the ‘what’ and ‘who’ of the product itself—its goals, metrics, users, and features. A Business Model or Lean Canvas is more strategic and looks at the entire business, including revenue streams, cost structure, and channels. You would typically use the Product Canvas *after* you have a validated business model.

It serves as a perfect starting point for building a product backlog. The ‘Big Picture’ section helps in creating epics and user stories, while the ‘Product Details’ can be broken down into specific backlog items for the initial sprints. It acts as a high-level guide and a shared ‘North Star’ for the development team.
